BALANCE
TEXAS CONtEMPORARY

Balance brings together fine art, ceramics, and furniture.

In October 2019, BADG artists created a show for Texas Contemporary—Houston’s leading modern and contemporary fine art and design fair. Balance, curated by Leyden Lewis, combined paintings, charcoal drawings, ceramic vessels, and handcrafted furniture.

One of the things we were trying to achieve was a tableau, an environment where these pieces belong together. It feels as if you’re in the corner of somebody’s home or their office.

It’s really the balance between different crafts, and how they work and are interrelated to one another.

Meet the Designers

Balance was curated by Leyden Lewis and featured Malene Barnett’s textile work and ceramics; blown glass pendants by Raymond Barberousse; painter Lisa Hunt’s gilded canvases; Zwelethu Machepha’s large-scale charcoal faces; and furniture pieces by Marlon Darbeau and Jomo Tariku.
